Maranasati - Death Awareness: 1

Led by Siddhisambhava

Sunday 03 February - Friday 08 February

The teaching programme will take different levels of experience into account

The practice of Maranasati, or death awareness, has a venerable tradition in Buddhist countries of the East but, for some reason (smile), it hasn't caught on much in the West.

To be human is to face change, loss and grief;it means ageing, illness and death. To turn towards that can seem a grim task. Yet the truth is also very beautiful. These two retreats (see Maranasati 2 in August) complement each other (but can be done singly) and follow that journey. We will explore our response to loss, the Buddhist understanding of life and death, prepare for death and deepen our engagement with life. The principal method on this retreat is workshops. In August the emphasis is on reflection and meditation.

"In brief, without being mindful of death, whatever Dharma practices you take up will be merely superficial." Milarepa
