Mitra Study - The Meaning of Conversion in Buddhism

Led by Suchitta

Friday 07 March - Friday 14 March

For women who have become Mitras ("friends") of the FWBO

... 'People tend to think "Once I was a Christian. Then I read a book about Buddhism, and changed my faith. Now I am a Buddhist and that's that." But it's not really that simple ...'

During the course of this week's retreat we'll be exploring four seminal talks given by Sangharakshita in 1966, not long after his return from India, when the FWBO was possibly only a twinkle in his eye, if that.

The theme of conversion is looked at not just as the heart's initial response to truth, but in relation to four crucial aspects of the Buddhist spiritual life: Going for Refuge to the Three Jewels, entering the Stream, the arising of the Will to Enlightenment and the Turning about in the Deepest Seat of Consciousness.

These four teachings are explained with a practical emphasis and customary clarity as 'turning points' - a wonderful metaphor - that can lead us to a deeper experience of Reality. So come and engage in an intriguing and fascinating revolution.

This retreat will run concurrently with another retreat: Development, Discovery and Surrender, enabling both retreats to to share communal activities such as meditation, puja and household duties.
