Meeting the Buddha
Led by
Samantabhadri
Friday 07 November - Friday 14 November
For OMs, Mitras and FWBO practitioners who have a
regular meditation practice and are familiar with the seven-fold puja
This is a retreat new to the Taraloka programme. Together we will explore and deepen our response to the historical Buddha: the man who achieved Enlightenment and took his humanity to its highest potential; the man who continued to teach in the world out of compassion for all beings; the man who was wise, kind and revolutionary. We will imaginatively enter the Buddha's world, whether the dusty roads of ancient India or the rocky heights of Vulture's Peak. The Buddha's world was also a fascinating social network: kings and courtesans, brahmins and bandits. It was a time of deep human aspiration and real human suffering. The retreat is open to anyone who is attracted to the programme and the theme. The programme will be spacious but include: meditation, devotion, imaginative evocation, presentations, reflection and, if you wish, personal creativity. In particular, over the week we will read aloud the 'Dhammapada' and thus bring alive the wisdom of the Buddha, letting the words echo within our being and within the shrine room. The retreat is seen as a shared journey and adventure: into ancient India, into timeless truths and into a deeper heart connection with the Buddha.
