Booking a retreat and getting here

Booking a retreat: To book a place on a retreat, you need to send us a non-returnable deposit (£30 for a weekend; £50 for retreats longer than that). Download our booking form and send it with your deposit to :

Bookings, Taraloka, Cornhill Farm, Bettisfield, Whitchurch, SY13 2LD, Shropshire.

We’ll send you a confirmation slip and directions for getting here. If you have any questions you can email : admin@taraloka.org.uk or ring : 0845 330 4063.

At present we can only take bookings by cheque. Payment by debit card will be available shortly.

Arriving and departing: Our retreats begin with supper at 6.30pm. It helps all round if you can arrive an hour or so before that and give yourself time to settle into your room, unpack and have a cup of tea. If you are going to miss supper, please leave us a message letting us know when you’ll get here and whether you’d like some supper kept for you.

Weekend retreats finish at around 3pm. Longer retreats finish at around 11am. It’s about 30 minutes from here by road to the two nearest train stations. So please take these times into account if you’re booking return train tickets.

By train to Whitchurch (Shropshire)
Ask for information for Whitchurch (Salop) station. There are three other Whitchurchs in the UK so make sure you get the right one! Our Whitchurch is about a 25 minute local train journey south from Crewe or north from Shrewsbury!

You need to book a taxi in advance to get from Whitchurch station to Taraloka. Arrange for it to meet your train. (We will arrange your return taxi.) The drive from Whitchurch takes 20 minutes and costs about £12.

By car - from Whitchurch
Follow signs for A495 Oswestry. Turn left after about 9 miles, signposted Bettisfield. After about half a mile you will pass a church on your right and then go over an old railway bridge. About 200 yards after the bridge, turn left onto track signed Taraloka. At the end of the track drive ahead for a few yards and park on the right. The retreat centre is the red brick building.

By car - from Shrewsbury
Follow signs for the A49 Whitchurch until you go through the village of Preston Brockhurst (about 8 miles). Turn left at the sign to Wem (B5063). After 3 miles turn right under the railway bridge at the T-junction. At the next T-junction turn left (a church is on your left). After 5 miles you will reach the village of Northwood. You’ll pass the Horse & Jockey pub on your left, go over a hump-backed bridge, and on the next sharp left bend, take the right turn, signed Bettisfield.

In Bettisfield, go over the hump-backed bridge over the canal and past the village hall (on your left). After 100 yards turn right down the track with the Taraloka sign. At the end of the track drive ahead for a few yards and park on the right. The retreat centre is the red brick building.
