Bursary

Bursary Fund for Women Dharma Teachers

In 2008 we set up a Taraloka Bursary Fund to help Dharmacharinis (women who are members of the Western Buddhist Order) develop their Dharma teaching skills. The bursaries will be given out three times a year. In 2010, this will be in February, June and October. What we have in mind is:

  • covering the cost of going on a retreat which would help your study or meditation teaching skills
  • helping you to cover loss of income whilst being away leading a retreat
  • helping with travel to the UK in order to lead retreats or support retreat teams here
  • help with attending general training events that you think would help your Dharma teaching skills

The Bursary fund for this year is £3000. In view of this and the number of requests we are receiving, the maximum bursary given to any applicant will be £500. If you would like to be considered, all you have to do is think through what in particular you would like a bursary for - then send us details of that, how much you would need, and also some information about how getting the bursary would help you as a Dharma teacher.

Please use the Bursary Request Form which can be downloaded below. Then send it to our Bursary Secretary, Alokada, who can also help you with filling in the request form. We need those requests by 31 January, 15 May and 15 September.

The Bursary is a mark of gratitude for all the generosity and support we have received from so many Dharmacarinis over the last twenty years or more. Thank you! The fund will receive will be topped up each year from Taraloka as part of the vision we have to support and invest in women Dharma Teachers. But you can also donate money to this fund (payable to FWBO Taraloka). Send in your donation and we add even more into the fund by matching any amount you give us!
