We aim to make food delicious, fresh and nutritionally balanced.
Mostly vegan with some cheese. Dairy and soya milk are available.
Fruit is always on the table. Food is important and we want to give
you meals that aid vitality, both physical and mental. If you have
to avoid some foods for medical reasons, just let us know in advance.
You won't ever have to plan menus or decide on quantities. We do
all that. In a spacious retreat atmosphere, chopping vegetables and
serving others becomes part of the daily practice of mindfulness
and kindness. So some days you'll have the opportunity to help
prepare and serve food, with the support of someone from the
Taraloka team.
In the Zen tradition, a visiting dignitary would first of all inspect
the kitchen. If he liked what he found there, he'd assume that
everything else in the monastery would be OK too. We haven't had any
visiting Zen dignitaries, but we are confident that they'd be very
satisfied with our Taraloka art of cooking!!
