Entering the Mandala of Meditation
Retreats specifically for women who have asked for ordination into the WBO
The immediate years before entering the Order can be crucial in deepening awareness and our understanding of how to put the Dharma into
practice. Kulaprabha has designed a mandala of meditation retreats especially for women
who have asked for ordination, based around the Order's system of meditation. She envisages this mandala evolving and changing as different Preceptors and other experienced Dharmacharinis come and help lead them.
The Beauty of Becoming: spiritual rebirth
17-26 February
Suggested donation: £324/£252/£198
Letting go of our
limited, ego-bound selves we open up a space in which something completely new can arise. It's as though a new mind can enter in which is free from ego-clinging and powered only by compassion. This is the process of spiritual rebirth, leading the way to the arising of the Bodhicitta. However, it can't be born in us unless we are doing something to lessen our egocentric attitude to the world. The retreat will use reflections on empathy, the limitations of samsara, and elements from the Bodhicitta practice. The four Brahma Viharas will also be included in the programme.
Trusting the Heart of Awareness: spiritual death
Padmadevi and Vijayamala
10-19 March
Suggested donation: £324/£252/£198
'By constant practice and mindfulness thereon,
One feels radiant self-awareness shining like a brilliant lamp.
It is pure and as bright as a flower,
It is like the feeling of staring into the vast and empty sky'

The Alchemy of Happiness: positive emotion
Kulaprabha and team
16-25 June
Suggested donation: £324/£252/£198
Exploring the positive nidanas of joy, delight, bliss, serenity and
concentration, as they emerge from their basis in faith, skilful conduct, and wise reflection. They can be experienced as a path to insight made up of pairs, or they can be thought of as conditions each leaning on and supporting the others like sheaves of corn; a set of mutually supportive mental states which together create the stepping off point for seeing things more as they actually are.
Moments of Being: integration
Vidyamala and team
3-13 November
Suggested donation: £360/£280/£220
Based on the Satipatthana Sutta, a key text on mindfulness, we will explore both samatha and vipassana approaches to the four foundations of
mindfulness: body, feelings, thoughts and dhammas. In meditation we will learn
to 'rest with' our actual experience in the moment - finding a spacious and kindly way between suppression of our experience and over identifying with it. We will also explore the interconnected or loving dimension of mindfulness. There will be daily teaching input, poetry and will be mainly in silence with opportunities for meditation interviews and group inquiries.
