One Moment at a Time (2018)
‘Your old life was a frantic running from silence…Wake up like someone suddenly born into colour.’
Rumi, the Sufi poet, beautifully expresses the longing for peace and clarity that so many of us feel in the hectic modern world.
This retreat will give you a chance to stop and unwind, and to recharge your batteries in the beautiful surroundings of Taraloka. Come and make new friends and learn some simple meditation practices that you can take back to become part of your daily life.
You will learn mindfulness meditation and loving kindness practice, a lying down body scan meditation and gentle walking meditation. There will also be the opportunity to participate in mindful movement (based on yoga and pilates), suitable whatever your physical capability.
We will explore practical ways to bring a kindly awareness to our daily lives and consider how these teachings of the Buddha can transform our lives today.
The teachings on the retreat draw, to some extent, on Vidyamala's inspiration. She founded Breathworks (www.breathworks-mindfulness.org.uk) where mindfulness and compassion practices are offered to people suffering from pain, illness and stress. But you don't need to be in pain or stressed out to come on this retreat. All the teachings and practices are helpful to anyone, no matter what your circumstances are.
A typical daily programme will be:
7.30 meditation (including short introductory sessions for newcomers)
10.30 teaching input and meditation with breaks, including body scan done lying down
1.00 lunch and free time
4.00 mindful movement
5.00 small group discussion
8.00 evening talk or practice or other activity
9.15 end of day’s programme
Maitrimala has been leading open retreats for 7 years and she enjoys bringing together women with a variety of meditation experience. She is particularly committed to exploring how kindly awareness and compassion can transform our lives.
