Tara Festival: Skylike Mind, Lotus Heart

Tara Festival: Skylike Mind, Lotus Heart

8 - 12 May 2025

Celebrate 40 years of Taraloka helping women to transform their lives and minds!

What does Taraloka mean to you?
‘Huge skies…’ ‘Coming home….’ ‘the place of the true Individual….’
‘finding how I practise….’ ‘passport to freedom!…..’
‘everything given freely….’ ‘I realised I could meditate…..’ ‘it changed my life…..’

Join Vidyamala, Parami and Saddhanandi for a special, celebratory festival weekend marking the 40th anniversary of the founding of Taraloka.

Join in our massive shrine room sleepover (comfy mattresses, pillows and duvets provided) or else come camping with your friends in our wonderful meadows, with the luxury of hot showers and all your meals prepared!

Number of places left = number of indoor spaces.  Camping spaces are unlimited.  There are no single rooms or standard beds left for this retreat – if you’d like to be on the waiting list for them, please email admin@taraloka.org.uk

Please note that during this retreat a new office will be being built (on the opposite side of the car park to the retreat centre). There will be some noise.

Parami, Saddhanandi and Vidyamala are all senior Order members who lived at Taraloka for extended periods and hold Taraloka dear to their hearts.  As Vidyamala says: “We all love Taraloka and are excited to lead the weekend and offer both a celebration and reflection on past, present and future.”

Over the weekend we’ll focus on different themes for each day:

Friday: This will be a day of practice celebrating the opportunities for liberation offered through the Triratna set of meditations and devotional practices.

Saturday: Here we will review the past 40 years of Taraloka and celebrate key milestones. What an incredible journey of transformation from the ruined farm of 1985 to the thriving retreat centre of today!

Sunday: Here we will look at where we find ourselves as practitioners of the present and consider how Taraloka might need to evolve as we look to the future. We live in a rapidly changing world with new threats and challenges. What might be needed to meet this with the wisdom of the Buddha and our role as women?

Monday:  Continue looking to the future before packing up and leaving about 2:30

Paying for your retreat

Taraloka runs on generosity.

To book a retreat you pay a booking fee. This is the only charge made for coming on retreat. As far as possible, we don’t want anyone’s financial situation to stop them from coming to Taraloka.

At the end of your retreat, you have the opportunity to give money towards Taraloka. If you are able to donate, you are giving to another person who otherwise could not afford to come on retreat. And you are helping to give the gift of Taraloka to the women of the future.

We have suggested donations as these reflect the basic income needed to make a retreat viable. However, they are only suggestions. It is genuinely fine to give ten times these amounts, nothing, or anything in between.

Running on generosity is radical – thank you for being part of that.
