As a team of Buddhist mothers, we are delighted to be leading weekend retreats for mothers at Taraloka. These weekends are open to all mothers and mothers-to-be with an interest in meditation and Buddhism and usually include a range of people, from experienced to newcomers.

This weekend will offer an opportunity to take time out and relax, away from immediate family demands. We will have meditation, talks, workshops, small discussion groups and short periods of silence.  You will be invited to contribute one simple task a day to help the retreat run smoothly and will be well fed and looked after in the welcoming, nourishing environment of Taraloka. There is space in the programme to go for walks, catch up on sleep and chat to other mothers.

Our experience is that the context of motherhood offers many invaluable opportunities for insight, heart-opening and personal and spiritual growth. This includes opportunities for letting go and responding creatively to not getting what we want – over and over – and reminders of how small children can us teach us to dwell with them in the here and now. We will focus on these and other gifts and explore how to integrate moments of calm or meditation and Buddhism in our lives as mothers.

Paying for your retreat

Taraloka runs on generosity.

To book a retreat you pay a booking fee. This is the only charge made for coming on retreat. As far as possible, we don’t want anyone’s financial situation to stop them from coming to Taraloka.

At the end of your retreat, you have the opportunity to give money towards Taraloka. If you are able to donate, you are giving to another person who otherwise could not afford to come on retreat. And you are helping to give the gift of Taraloka to the women of the future.

We have suggested donations as these reflect the basic income needed to make a retreat viable. However, they are only suggestions. It is genuinely fine to give ten times these amounts, nothing, or anything in between.

Running on generosity is radical – thank you for being part of that.
